The area is managed by Metsähallitus. Fell nature and different vegetation zones are easy to see and experience as they can be found in the immediate vicinity of the Saariselkä tourist resort. The fells, which are a defining characteristic of the region, are bordered on their north side by spruce forest, which changes to pine forest on the north side of Saariselkä.
